Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 29, 2026

1. Introduction

Urica ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and related services.

By using Urica, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication credentials. If you sign in using Google or Apple, we receive basic profile information from those services.

Health & Gout Data

To provide personalized gout management insights, we collect:

  • Photos of your meals (processed by AI and stored securely)
  • Your food and drink diary, including what you type or say when logging a meal
  • Gout profile information (flare history, affected joints, medication)
  • Uric acid (serum urate) readings you enter, with their dates
  • Flare and tingle logs (severity, location, duration, notes)
  • Daily context data (hydration, sleep, stress, activity levels)
  • Weight entries and workouts you log
  • Health conditions and metabolic factors if you choose to provide them

Apple Health

If you turn on Apple Health sync (iOS, Urica Pro), and only for the data types you allow:

  • Read from Apple Health: weight, water from other apps, and workouts. What Urica reads is saved to your Urica account so it appears in your weight history, fluid tracking and activity log, including on your other devices.
  • Written to Apple Health: weight and water you log in Urica, and your daily nutrition totals (calories, protein, carbohydrates, sugar, fiber, fat, saturated fat, vitamin C and iron).

We never use Apple Health data for advertising or marketing, and we never sell it. It is not shared with third parties except the service providers that run Urica (listed below), and only to provide the app's features. You can stop the sync at any time in Urica's Settings → Apple Health or in the iOS Health app, and you can ask us to delete the data (see Your Rights).

How Did You Hear About Us

During setup, Urica may ask how you heard about the app (for example an app store search, social media, a doctor or an article). Your answer is stored with your account and used only to understand which channels bring people to Urica.

Usage Data

We automatically collect certain information about your device and how you interact with the app, including device type, operating system, app version, and feature usage patterns.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide AI-powered meal analysis for purine, fructose, and glycemic content
  • Tailor each analysis to your situation: when you scan or log a meal, relevant parts of your gout profile (such as your known triggers, gout medication, flare frequency, hydration goal and your latest uric acid level) are sent along with the meal so the explanation fits you
  • Track and analyze flare patterns and potential correlations
  • Generate personalized insights based on your tracking data
  • Send push notifications (flare check-ins, hydration reminders, if enabled)
  • Process subscription payments through RevenueCat
  • Improve our app and develop new features
  • Respond to your support requests

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Urica:

  • Firebase (Google) - Authentication, database storage, and cloud functions
  • Google Gemini AI - AI-powered meal analysis using Gemini 2.5 Flash. Meal photos, the text you type or say when logging, and the gout-profile context described above are sent to Google's API for processing. When Urica generates pattern insights, a summary of your recent days (for example meals, flares and daily hydration totals, which can include water imported from Apple Health) is sent the same way.
  • RevenueCat - Subscription and payment processing
  • Expo - Push notification delivery

Each of these services has their own privacy policy governing their use of data.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely using Firebase Cloud Firestore with encryption at rest and in transit. Meal photos are stored in Firebase Cloud Storage with restricted access.

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information. However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access - Request a copy of your personal data
  • Correction - Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Deletion - Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Export - Request your data in a portable format
  • Opt-out - Disable push notifications and analytics

To exercise these rights, contact us at support@urica.app .

7. GDPR & CCPA Compliance

For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), we process your data based on your consent and our legitimate interests in providing the service. You have the right to withdraw consent at any time.

California residents have additional rights under the CCPA, including the right to know what personal information is collected and the right to request deletion. We do not sell your personal information.

8. Children's Privacy

Urica is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy in the app and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of Urica after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
